Based in Trentino in North East Italy, CAVIT has grown to become a major force in Italian wine since its inception in 1950 by a group of co-operatives. CAVIT now comprises 11 wineries with over 4,500 growers, all committed to supplying their entire yield to CAVIT - a key element to the group's success.
The grapes from CAVIT's 5,700 hectares of vineyards account for two thirds of Trentino's entire production. The self-contained province lies in a flat, glacial valley between Lake Garda and the Dolomite mountains. Towards the lake the region is a land of olive groves and red wine, and to the north a cool breeze flows from the mountains - ideal for white wines.
Trentino's terroir is particularly suited to concentrated, juicy white wines with a streak of minerality. Pinot Grigio in particular enjoys the hot days and cool night air currents which allow the wine to retain its aromas and finesse.
CAVIT lays great store by Trentino's indigenous Teroldego grape from which it produces a fruity and easy drinking red, full of smooth blackberry flavours and with subtle tannins. Prosecco also performs well here, and CAVIT's Lunetta Prosecco is currently capitalising on the worldwide popularity of this sparkling wine.
